Featured Painting
This month's featured painting is Late Afternoon (Oil on Linen, 8 x 10 inches, pictured). I painted this piece during a visit to Garden of the Gods here in Colorado Springs with a small group of artist friends. Garden of the Gods has so many beautiful areas that make great painting spots. That particular day we chose this meadow full of Juniper trees which required great control during the painting process in order to keep them simple. Trees can easily become overworked, but they are some of my favorite things to paint outdoors. Click here to see close-ups of Late Afternoon.

Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters National Show
Next month I will participate in the 2010 Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters National Show, which will take place in beautiful Crested Butte, Colorado. The event will take place during Crested Butte's annual wildflower festival, a celebration of the brief but spectacular peak of the wildflower season in this rugged climate. The show and sale of all the paintings produced during the eight-day event will open July 16th at Oh-Be-Joyful Gallery. This is a wonderful chance to see the work of more than 40 of today's sought-after plein air artists and witness the beauty of Crested Butte for yourself. I hope to see you there!
