I’m excited to announce that we will be moving to Ojai, California (pronounced “oh-high”) where we will open a studio/gallery for my artwork. Sarah and I (and Ian) found a perfect available retail space in the center of town during a trip to California last month and decided to pursue it. We feel like the time is right to take this step to further my art career and to allow Sarah to work with me full-time. We will be making the move in April.
Ojai is a beautiful town of about 8,000 people and is close in proximity to a number of great areas. It’s about 15 miles from the coastal city of Ventura (population 100,000+), about 80 miles from downtown Los Angeles and about 35 miles from Santa Barbara. The town is bordered by beautiful mountains, lush canyons and citrus groves and enjoys a pleasant climate year-round. (I plan to offer plein air painting workshops there as soon as possible so watch for more information to come.)
I will continue to keep you all informed of how we’re doing and I hope you will keep in touch as well. We are sad to be leaving all of our friends and connections in Colorado, but look forward to this next adventure with great anticipation!
Oh wow, Dan! That’s so exciting! I hope all goes well with the move. You’ll do great! Blessings, E
Thank you, Elmarie! We’re excited!
How exciting for you guys!! We’ll miss seeing you around – hope you still come back for some of the fun CO shows! =)
Thanks, Stacey! I won’t be coming to RMPAP this year or the Crested Butte plein air show — I decided to focus on getting the gallery going in CA rather than traveling back to CO so soon. Maybe I’ll be in a position to participate again next year…. We will definitely miss seeing everyone!
I enjoyed a brief visit to Ojai a few years ago… really loved the area. Great spot for an artist. Good luck to you and your family!
Thank you, Justin!
Hi Dan, Sarah and Ian,
It was a surprise to hear your move, but I wish you a good luck on your new Venture. I’ve known you since the old Copttonwood. With Sarah and little Ian at your side, you will be doing wonderfully. When I travel to California (my sister lives near Laguna Beach), I may stop by at your gallery in Ojai to say “Hi!”
Love you all,
HI DAN..WE ARE THE “DOLL LADY”OWNERS…WE LOVE HEARING YOU ARE MOVING TO ONE OF OUR FAVORITE CALIF. PLACES..AND WE HAVE MANY!!!!!!! HOPE TO GET UP THERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE AS WE SPEND 2-3 MONTHS IN RANCHO MIRAGE IN THE WINTER. KNOW YOU WILL LOVE OJAI AND AM SURE THEY WILL LOVE YOU!!!! GOOD LUCK
Thank you, Kazuko and Ann! You’re welcome to come by for a visit!
That is one smart move. You will always be able to find your way back to Colorado. The enviroment for painting and marketing will be great for you. Good Luck.
Thank you, Tom — we sure hope it’s a smart move!
I am excited for you and your family! I remember working with you those many years ago. I am happy that you followed your desire to paint! May God continue to bless you, Sarah, and Ian.
You couldn’t have left at a worst time. I’m right on the cusp of becoming a level 3 painter, (all I have is two levels to go) and I was counting on you getting me there. Maybe a correspondence course in art. Are you up for that? On second thought my right thumb is still good so maybe I could hitch hike to Ojai and enable some plain air enhancement, which could be english for plein air painting. We should go surfing together. Do they allow old, fat guys to surf? We could paint the surf boards and make them real rad. They would sell for millions of mills. Seriously Dan I wish you the best including success in everything you do. Your Friend Tom
Thanks, Anita and Tom! I hope to reach that elusive Level 3 soon myself, Tom! You’re welcome to come out and paint with me in Ojai and show me your surfing skills — I don’t think I’ll be a Level 3 surfer anytime soon….
I am so happy for you three! It will be so exciting to have your own studio/gallery! And such a beautiful area! Be sure to let us all know in Colorado Springs about your plein air workships. It would be great to see you all in your new digs. I am very proud of you! Becky Myers
Thanks so much, Becky! Watch my newsletter for more information about upcoming workshops in Ojai!
Really enjoy seeing your Art Work!!! I am not far from where you will have your new studio in Ojai..Will plan
on seeing you in Ojai….Sincerely, Dian
I’ll look forward to meeting you! We hope to have the gallery open by the beginning of May.
Welcome to California. I am an artist in Camarillo and I am sure you will be loving the California Coast. I have a lot of wonderful artist friends in Ojai. I will be on the lookout for your arrival. Contact me when you get settled. I’d love to show you some favorite plein air locations.
Thanks so much, Rich — I’ll definitely be interested in doing some plein air as soon as possible!
