Just returned from teaching a 3-day outdoor painti Just returned from teaching a 3-day outdoor painting workshop in Carmel-by-the-Sea with @carmelvisualarts. Our focus was painting in a high-key color range, which meant translating the colors we saw in the landscape toward lighter values and really noticing color temperature differences. A really fun way to expand our color understanding. The 1st photo shows one of my demonstrations, comparing literal colors (top painting) and high-key colors (bottom painting), looking at the same scene. Carmel is such a beautiful place for landscape painting. And @richbrimerart did a fantastic job organizing the workshop. An extra bonus was seeing one of William Wendt’s largest paintings (last photo) for sale at Thomas Lawrence Fine Art while I visited some of the galleries with my family. #carmelbythesea #pleinairworkshop #highkey
